Odysseus, who plays a part in Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, is a fictional king of Ithaca. He is one of the heroes of Greek mythology, and Homer's epic works tell the stories of his time in the Trojan war and his journey home. In order to return home to Ithaca- an island off the coast of Greece- Odysseus most overcome many challenges. First, his ships are blown off course, and he is captured by a cyclops. After blinding the cyclops, he escapes, and is lucky enough to obtain a magical bag which contains the winds. He and his crew make their journey almost all the way to Ithaca, when the sailors open the bag of wind, blowing their ship far away.
It takes ten more years and many battles with mystical creatures before Odysseus is finally able to return home.
